Yeoman Warder Chris Scaife, Ravenmaster at The Tower of London

Yeoman Warder [Beefeater] and Ravenmaster Scaife has lived at The Tower of London for the past 8 years with his wife and daughter.

He served in the British Army for 24 years, during which time he became a machine gun specialist. He is also an expert in survival and interrogation resistance. He has appeared on The History Channel, PBS, BBC and other channels alongside his favourite raven at the Tower of London, Merlina!” From gravemattersblog.com, a blogsite that is not to be missed, accessed online on September 9, 2014.

On gravemattersblog.com, the Ravenmaster says that when he became a member of the Queen’s Ceremonial Bodyguard, The Body of Yeoman Warders responsible for the security of the Tower of London and the Crown Jewels, little did he know that he would have the honor (make that “honour,” British spelling) of becoming the Ravenmaster and having all the responsibility involved in looking after eight magnificent and extremely intelligent birds.

Ravenmaster Scaife quotes the artist and writer, Tony Angell, as saying that “he knew of no other bird so steeped in myth, history and legend ranging across the entire northern hemisphere.”

The Tower of London–that is, the White Tower that forms its central and most conspicuous feature–was built by William the Conqueror.
